Jade and I have collaborated a bunch of times over the years, most notably on the Beartooth album, Disease. My favorite things about working with her are her punctuality, her professionalism, and most of all her willingness to get weird. This shoot proved to be more of the same.

We started by creating more images for my series, One Man’s Trash. My favorite element to these images is her breath that was fogging up the plastic. Something about it reminds me of the music video for Radiohead’s “No Surprises”. I am really starting to think about possibly doing a gallery show for this series. I think the images would look great as large prints as there is so much wonderful detail in the plastic.

After that we did a set with the prism paper (my current favorite accessory). I started by shooting through the window film. The green shape in the color image is a reflection of the ceiling rafters (as usual these images were lit was by one, un-gelled light). Then I had her come around to my side of the film and I shot her warped reflection. I placed the light above her and slightly behind her, aiming it into the film so the bounce light would illuminate her face. I love how the reflected light has an watery feeling to it. I also love the warping of her face (which comes from the film curling at the sides), which reminds me of a scene in 12 Monkeys.

For the remainder of the shoot we created a range of black and white, hard light images. I played around with flagging my light in the first image, which created a nice diagonal shadow on the white background. Then I played a bit with black wire, making it look like she was screaming/vomiting it out. Finally, I incorporated the backdrop into the image as a design element.
