Remotrait Session (FaceTime / Zoom Photo Shoot)
Remotrait Session (FaceTime / Zoom Photo Shoot)
Shortly after lockdown began in 2020, I started conducting portrait sessions with remote subjects over FaceTime and Zoom. I dubbed these sessions Remotraits.
Because the resolution of a virtual video feed is so poor (and a subject’s lighting conditions often worse), I had to get creative with practical effects in order to produce interesting, or even usable, remote portraits. I employed a range of techniques such as projecting the video feed on or through various materials, printing out images and re-shooting them in water, or using intentional camera movement, just to name a few.
Over the five years that have passed since my first Remotrait sessions, technology has improved, and so have my techniques. I’ve decided to bring back Remotraits with the intent of integrating new creative approaches and offering anyone, anywhere the chance to book a portrait session.
