Evanescence: The Bitter Truth Photo Shoot

March 30, 2021

Back in November I drove down to Nashville to photograph @amylee for her upcoming @evanescenceofficial album, The Bitter Truth. I set up a makeshift studio in her dining room and knocked out a broad range of images for the album art, various magazine spreads, and images for streaming platforms…

After getting the “studio” images out of the way we headed over to a rock quarry to get some shots of Amy standing at the edge of a cliff at sundown. This was only my second time flying a drone in my life (the first time was the day before in a field behind my house), so I was relieved that I not only got some great shots but the drone also lived to see another shoot.

A couple of months later I photographed the other four members of the band over FaceTime, since they’re located all over the world and couldn’t be together due to the pandemic. As typical in my Remotrait shoots, I shoot with a range of materials to create in-camera distortions.

One cool thing about the album art is that several of my personal, fine art images also ended up in the layout. For example, the swirling image of the tree in the spread below was taken on my phone during a walk last winter.
